Dear friends! We, the representatives of the LGBT community of Ukraine from the city of Mykolaiv, are asking for your help and protection! It is no longer possible to keep silent! We appeal to international human rights organizations, the UN, the European Union, the leaders of the entire civilized world and also to the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky!
Our politicians constantly state about the organization of a modern society, where there is no place for discrimination and violence, about equality of all citizens and the rule of law. However, this is just a screen behind which the authorities hide a horrible, bloody reality. Anyone who is beyond the traditional notions of gender identity can become a victim of physical violence!
Hate crimes occur almost daily, but the law enforcement agencies do not even try to punish the perpetrators. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the nationalist organizations, which are under the control of the security services, are responsible for the attacks.
The attacks, property damage and threats have become the ordinary in Mykolaiv. In the last few months, the Mykolaiv civic organization LGBT Association “LIGA” has received a number of threats to blow up or burn down the office of the association and to kill all its members, their relatives and loved ones by the most brutal means: “We will burn your houses and cut your relatives and friends”.
The threats are accompanied by photos and videos of ruthless massacres of innocent people already carried out. Just have a look to see what these beasts are capable of!

Information about the critical situation of LGBT rights is regularly published in the reports of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
On February 11, the European Parliament passed a resolution on Ukraine's implementation of the association agreement with the EU, in which one section condemns the current human rights situation in the country, including LGBT rights.
Already in February, having regarding the ongoing attacks and threats in Mykolaiv, the European Parliament sent a separate letter addressed to the highest officials of the country and officials in the Mykolaiv region. The parliamentarians hold the authorities and law enforcement agencies fully responsible for the blatant violations: sharply points to the “ineffectiveness of police investigations” and “fear of citizens for their safety”. They also “remind the Ukrainian authorities’ obligations in the field of human rights in accordance with bilateral agreements between Ukraine and the European Union” and urge “to implement the recommendations of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on combating discrimination on the ground of sexual orientation and gender identity”.

One would have expected the situation would not continue to be at a deadlock thanks to the active intervention of the world community, but, in reality, things have only gotten worse!
Besides, the threats and attacks continue to be not only in Mykolaiv, but throughout the country. Instead of protecting the people, the authorities and law enforcement agencies put unprecedented pressure on the local Mykolaiv media and the leadership of LGBT Association “LIGA” to prevent any publication of the letter from the European Parliament as well as the ongoing threats.
There are five criminal cases in the Mykolaiv police, which were brought by statements from LGBT Association “LIGA”. However, despite the large public outcry and the involvement of international organizations, the investigation has no any progress. Mykolaiv law enforcement officials limit themselves by formal reply, while the local authorities look upon their citizens with contempt and hatred. The only thing they care about is to protect themselves, to make up for the fuss as much as possible and not to let the scandal reach the management!
We are very scared! We are under constant threat of death with the tacit approval of the authorities!
We need to make this public, appeal to human rights organizations and lawyers, and to put the pressure on the leadership of the country.
We have to get the law enforcement agencies to work and the authorities to comply with their statements. Help us to protect ourselves and our loved ones!
Please, circulate this petition! Our lives are in your hands!
