Why this petition matters

Started by Nicholas Duke

Dear Prime Minister Justin Trudeau,

In light of the recent and active-ongoing volcanic eruption of the La Soufrière volcano in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), we, citizens and residents of Canada of Vincentian heritage are pleading with the Canadian government and the Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to have the visa requirements temporarily rescinded to allow safe evacuation of our families from the devastation that has happened and what is predicted to happen over a short span of time including a Pyroclastic flow.

On April 9, 2021 the La Soufrière Volcano in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines reported several explosive eruptions that left many residents in the Red zone displaced-fled their homes and livestock in order to escape the perils of this disaster. It has also been reported from the Seismic Team that the volcano continues to erupt explosively three days after its first eruption.

Due to the explosive eruptions ashes and sulphur plummeted all over the island destroying homes, churches and other infrastructure regardless of which zone you're in.

The lament of the people suggests that there are no safe zones because of the danger of the ashes and strong scent of the sulphur that left many people with respiratory problems including very young children fighting to breathe with little or no medical assistance.

Our hearts are filled with pain, we have sleepless nights thinking of our loved ones, Imagine how they feel having to endure no electricity, no water, no food, no clean air to breathe.

We place a demand on Canada's humanitarian conscience to allow our loved ones to join us here safely as we prepare to rebuild our beloved nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
