Teaching about asexuality and aromanticism in health/sex-ed classes in school will prevent asexual and aromantic teens growing up thinking there is something wrong with them. Asexuality and aromanticism are sexual and romantic orientations and not disorders. When asexual and aromantic teens have this mindset, they might force themselves into awful sexual situations and abusive relationships because they think they are broken. Additionally, there are many misconceptions about asexuality and aromanticism that can be helped by teaching about it to other students so that they may learn to respect people and their sexual and romantic orientations. Asexual and aromantic teens and adults are often left out of conversations about LGBTQ+ rights. It’s time for a change!
