Why this petition matters

In 2019, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced his intention to locate a site for a new high school in Elkridge, Maryland. On January 16th, 2020, the Ball administration released the results of an environmental study announcing that two sites, including The Timbers at Troy Golf Course, are "viable" sites for the construction of a school. The Timbers at Troy is owned by Howard County and operated by a private contractor.

The Timbers at Troy Golf Course was opened in 1996, and renovated in 2017. It is the only fully public, non-membership golf course in Howard County and provides recreation options to tens-of-thousands of people every year ranging from teenagers to senior citizens. The golf course generates hundreds-of-thousands of dollars of revenue for Howard County and employs dozens of Howard County and central Maryland residents, and is one of the busiest golf courses in the area. It is also listed as a member of Audubon International, recognizing its environmental stewardship.

When there are other undeveloped sites available that do not generate revenue for Howard County or provide active recreation options for Howard County residents, it does not make sense to develop Elkridge's only golf course. Save The Timbers at Troy Golf Course!
