Why this petition matters

Started by Samantha Gazda

Because climate change poses an existential threat to our very futures, it is incumbent on the youth of today to lead in demanding change at a local, state, national, and global level. We young people have studied this information and are understandably very concerned.

We ask that all students who attend Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and who have parental permission to miss school to strike for climate, be allowed to do so without academic penalty. This pertains to coordinated youth strikes that will occur no more than 1-3 times per semester.

Other school counties including NYC, Portland, and Boston understand the need to support this youth-led civic engagement. Let’s lead with them!

Keeping kids safe and educated is your job. This is no different. #StrikeWithUs
