TRIGGER WARNING: SEXUAL ASSAULT, PEDOPHILLIA, SELF HARM AND SUICIDE. 

My name is Susan Wang and I am 17 years old. On June 29th, I reached out on social media regarding my sexual assault experience with John Stewart Russell, who is currently a Research Associate at the Institute for Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Lasers at the City College of New York (CCNY). Stewart Russell has committed pedophilic sexual acts against me, my younger sister, as well as many underaged girls that have also begun reaching out to me. 

His hideous and disgusting acts have caused me and the other victims to have trauma and severe mental health issues as well. Because of this incident, I suffered with depression, turned to self harm, as well as attempted suicide. The constant shame of my body and the fear of retaliation from Russell scared me and I stayed silent for over two years. I have brought up this case to the NYPD but unfortunately, that ended disappointingly. John Stewart Russell got off the hook with a mere misdemeanor and continues to work and prey on underage girls and students to this day. I find this awfully sickening and disgusting. 

I am making this petition to call on the City College of New York and its administration to launch an investigation and fire John Stewart Russell, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. For a college that claims to want to nurture scholars who will contribute to the greater good of society, the fact that it stands by while this horrid professor continues to walk the halls of CCNY and teaching these young people is unacceptable and extremely alarming. CCNY's mission statement reads that “CCNY is as diverse, dynamic, and boldly visionary as the city itself ... CCNY produces citizens who make an impact on the cultural, social, and economic vitality of New York, the nation, and the world”, which is a statement I would really want to believe; however, I do not think this institution can uphold its values with a sexual predator within its faculty.
