DOMESTIC/CHILD ABUSE, AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES AND THE AMOUNT OF ABUSERS (specifically narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths-which make up the largest sub-set of abusers), are NATIONAL EPIDEMICS and are only getting worse...

The three newer fields of neuroscience, developmental psychopathology and interpersonal neurobiology, as well as epigenetics, has shown us exactly how one person can cause profound mental, physiological and real physical illnesses in another by exerting abusive power and control over them, especially in chronic situations. Verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse, as well as, rejection, neglect, abandonment, and even yelling, have the exact same effect on our Central Nervous Systems as being physically assaulted or abused!  This is why so many abuse victims end up with autoimmune diseases, such as Lupus, M.S. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto's  and other illnesses such as PTSD, ADHD/ADD, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, IBS, asthma, Thyroid issues, and more. This happened to me....

The current laws, guidelines and protocols in place do not reflect or align with the level of severity or scope of damage these abusers cause, nor do they make it easy to prosecute for these "invisible" types of interpersonal crimes, much less make an arrest because it's difficult to quantify or collect evidence for verbal, emotional or psychological abuse. 

Last year, the United States Department of Justice, very quietly and unceremoniously (which I think is very telling) changed the official definition of "Domestic Violence", which included these,"invisible abuses and crimes", back to its original definition of only covering physical and sexual abuse. LET THAT SINK IN FOR A MOMENT! This little move has set women's right back decades!
