On March 18th, 2018, unarmed, 22-year-old Stephon Clark was fatally shot and killed by Sacramento police in his grandmother's backyard. Officers Terrence Mercadal and Jared Robinet shot Clark seven times, including three times in the back killing him, according to an autopsy released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office. An independent autopsy found that he was shot eight times, six of those wounds in his back, according to a forensic pathologist retained by his family. Clark was suspected of having a weapon, but after an exhaustive search, investigators did not find any firearms near Clark's body. The only items found near Clark was a cell phone, though body camera captured the officers asking each other if they were OK and whether they had been "hit."

Clearly this was another case of shoot first, question later. And unfortunately, the Sacramento County District Attorney was complicit in the injustice for refusing to criminally prosecute these officers.

The plague of racial discrimination within the Sacramento Police Department can only be eradicated if these officers receive swift punishment for their actions. Join me in the effort to remove Sacramento County District Attorney, Anne Marie Schubert.
