Why this petition matters

Started by Ropeworks International

This petition has been raised to challenge the HSE insistence that the UK arboricultural industry adopt the working approach as outlined in the Working at Height Regulations 2005. It says that all work positioning must be carried out using two independent anchor points at all times. There are many practical arborists throughout the world who see this as a huge step backwards when considering recent equipment & technical developments that have taken place during the past 10-15 years.

Since the introduction of WaHR in 2005, the industry has had a healthy relationship & understanding with the HSE & that such an enforcement would not make arboreal work safer & would create a complexity of equipment management that would likely create different risks that don't currently exist without eliminating the low risk of using a single anchor point. Since the summer of 2019 negotiation has been attempted & it seems little headway has been made. So now the main UK training bodies, Lantra & NPTC have been threatened with legal action if their trainers do not teach twin line/anchor climbing.

If you feel that this position should be challenged & support research into the worldwide use of arborist equipment use & techniques, then please sign & share this petition far & wide. The more support we have the greater the chance of a complete review of arboricultural systems can be made & we can lead ourselves, as an industry into the new decade on a positive note.
