Removing Georgia's EdTPA Program Is Needed for Teachers to Remain in Classrooms
Why this petition matters
We are already in a teacher shortage in Georgia. I am petitioning the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to vote to remove edTPA program requirements and waiver stipulations effective July 2020.
Current challenges: The waiver accompanied with the requirement for teachers to go through certified teaching programs are more of a barrier and entry way for teachers. The workload is repetitive with professional development required of teachers in school already, the amount of money for the program is expensive and the waiver process does not match the required time period for edTPA program.
Mission: We need to maintain seasoned, effective teachers in Georgia classrooms to help ensure that all students are being provided better educational opportunities. By eliminating the waiver process and edTPA program, this gives local control to school districts/boards on needed processes for teaching development and training.
If you are a teacher in Georgia facing this challenge or a support of education reform in efforts to improve the public educational system in Georgia, please email the GAPSC your support removing edTPA programs to rulescomments@gapsc.com or eduprep@gapsc.com.
