Why this petition matters

English | French

Climate change is the worldwide issue of the 21st century; it is the fight of the current global citizens for the better future of tomorrow’s generations.

We are at the crossroads of our time, the most urgent matter yet encountered in the history of human civilization; failing to respond to our planet’s cry for help will ensure crossing the point of no return.

But there is still hope, there is still time for change; and because we do not have enough time to waste on waiting for change, we must claim it.

I ask you, in the name of the future generations burdening our conscience; in the name of our ancestors, atop whose shoulders we stand taller than giants; and in the name of our planet, whose permission we did not ask for to exploit; I ask you to fight alongside us, be it with a signature or with your voice; for we all have a voice waiting to be heard, and every single one of them counts.

Demand action now, before it is too late!

By signing this petition, we urge the Quebec government to:

1) Spread awareness about the climate urgency by:

  • - Surveying citizens about their own ecological impact;
  • - Funding sensibilization campaigns.

2) Decrease greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation of goods by:

  • Actively encouraging the local economy;
  • Giving grants to urban agriculture;
  • Implementing an additional sales tax to eCommerce platforms.

3. Decrease the amount of resources used by industries by:

  • Encouraging sustainable means of production;
  • Minimizing the demand through encouraged reusability/sharing.

4. Decrease the use of oil and its derivatives by:

  • Funding research on alternatives to plastic;
  • Pioneering such alternatives and making them widespread.

5) Attain a level of zero waste by:

  • Ensuring the presence and accessibility of composting as well as recycling of all types of plastic, paper, glass and metals province-wide;
  • Ensuring that compostable items are diverted from the landfill, where they would produce methane, a greenhouse gas;
  • Ensuring that all products currently able to be recycled are indeed processed, regardless of logistic issues;
  • Ensuring that products no longer needed, but in good condition are donated to the appropriate redistributors (food banks, used book libraries, tool libraries, etc.)

6) Prevent energy waste by:

  • Reducing unnecessary lighting (e.g. not lighting advertisements in public transport if there is enough daylight).

7) Decrease their own ecological impact as much as possible.
