Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced new restrictions on visits to aged care facilities during the 2020 flu season.

Anyone who has not been vaccinated against influenza by May 1st will be banned from entering any, and all residential aged care facilities. 

This includes family and friends, volunteers, tradesmen, health professionals, contract workers, community transport, the cook, the cleaner, the gardener and the delivery driver.

THIS IS NOT JUST RESTRICTED TO THE HEALTHCARE WORKER. THIS AFFECTS ALL OF US!

Aged care facilities throughout Australia have already implemented new policies and procedures regarding infection control in response to the covid 19 pandemic. All visitors are required to sign documentation and consent to having their temperature checked. 

In addition to this, all healthcare workers have a duty of care to ensure they do not attend the premises if they are unwell. This should be sufficient.

No one should be forced to choose between their right to visit a loved one, and their right to bodily autonomy. Just as no-one should be coerced into relinquishing their right to bodily integrity so they can retain their job. 

We are asking Prime Minister Scott Morrison to revoke the government mandate on mandatory influenza vaccinations in Aged care facilities, on the grounds that it violates a.person's right to bodily autonomy and contravenes a person's right to self determination, personhood, freedom of thought/conscience, and freedom of expression as set out in the International Covenant on Civil and Political rights.
