Why this petition matters

Started by R. Scott Wells

Few, if any, players are as synonymous with the Charlotte Hornets as Dell Curry. He was selected by the Hornets in the 1988 expansion draft and spent ten years with the franchise, longer than any other original Hornet. In those ten years, he averaged 14.0 points per game and shot a hair over 40% from behind the arc. His best season came in 1993-94, where he averaged 16.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists with 45.5/40.2/87.3% shooting splits. His efforts that year won him the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award.

He left the team in 1999 as the franchise leader in points scored, field goals made, 3-pointers made, and games played. Those first three records have since been broken by Kemba Walker, but Curry still holds the franchise record for games played as a Hornet.

He now works as a color commentator and ambassador for the Hornets, further entrenching himself in the franchise’s history.

With this being the 30th anniversary of the franchise, what better time to suspend the number 30 jersey from the rafters?
