Why this petition matters

Started by Nigel Brooks

Sheffield Legends is a Walk of Fame located outside Sheffield Town Hall honouring famous people from or connected to Sheffield. As in the Hollywood version, there are plaques with famous people's names on them and why they are famous.

The purpose of this petition is to request that the City of Sheffield honour internationally respected British vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record label owner Paul Carrack for inclusion in the Sheffield Legends Walk of Fame

Paul Carrack (born 22 April 1951 Sheffield, UK)

Paul, grew up in Crookes and went to Western Park Junior School, then on to Myers Grove, which was brand new at the time.  With one of the most revered voices in music, he began touring at the age of 17 before rising to prominence in the 1970s as front man of rock band Ace, later gaining further recognition for his work as a solo artist and for his tenures as a member of Roxy Music, Squeeze and Roger Waters' backing band.

Paul wrote and sang ‘How Long’, the much-covered 1974 classic from his days with Ace, and was the voice of ‘Tempted’, from his tenure with Squeeze. Then came such hits with Mike + the Mechanics as the Grammy-Nominated ‘The Living Years’ and ‘Over My Shoulder’, the latter a co-write with Mike Rutherford. Not to mention that another co-write, ‘Love Will Keep Us Alive’, was covered by the Eagles and won a hugely prestigious ASCAP award as Song of the Year.

Paul tours the UK and Europe annually with his band made up of musicians from Sheffield. Paul also tours with Eric Clapton as part of his band.

In 2012, The BBC dubbed Paul "The Man with the Golden Voice" in a documentary about him.

A lifelong supporter of Sheffield Wednesday, Paul is a fine ambassador of the City of Sheffield, mentioning its influences on him during his formative years. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00zd66w
