It's time to defund the Phoenix police! 

In the last two weeks, tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets and over 11,000 online actions have been taken to demand Phoenix City Council and Mayor Gallego support Black and Brown lives. That support starts with defunding the Phoenix police and investing that money into communities of color. 

Where the City decides to spend our tax dollars is a reflection of their priorities and their values. The Phoenix budget has never prioritized the health and wellbeing of people of color, especially Black people. Recently, the City voted to give the Phoenix police department $744 million, despite thousands of residents demanding they defund.  

Phoenix police have a long history of violence against Black, Brown, Indigenous, and LGBTQ people in our city. In 2018, they shot more people than any other department in the country and they regularly collaborate with ICE to tear apart immigrant families. Three out of every four times they point a gun at someone, they are a person of color. 

For the past 30 years, cities across the country have tried to solve police violence with reforms. This has proven to us that there is no magic formula of training, policy change, and officer diversity that can end police violence. The only solution is to disband the police and replace them with a new, community-led system that prioritizes our health and safety. We demand Mayor Gallego and Phoenix City Council members take bold action in support of Black lives because no one is safe until Black lives matter! - DEFUND PHOENIX POLICE!
