Why this petition matters

Update #4: On 3 July 2020, an MSF officer has contacted us and replied that they have received our petition and advised that they are aware of our concerns and are investigating the matter. They have shared several links to statements made by them and Singapore Police Force (SPF) about the matter, detailing what has been done and what they are currently doing so we would like to direct you to them as well.

You may read it here:

For further updates, do monitor MSF’s, SPF’s and Mdm Safirah’s FB account.

Update #3: As of midnight tonight, we have compiled 19,004 signatures and comments from all of you. Upon discussing with @ausometots, we have decided to close the petition and have sent the PDF files to MSF. Thank you so much for your support! Keep on raising awareness for special needs individuals and you can check out @ausometots on Instagram to find out and learn more about it!

UPDATE #2: We have reached out to MSF (via FB) regarding this petition. This petition will be open till midnight tonight - in order for us to be able to generate the PDF file of signatures and comments (as change.org requires the petition to be at least 24 hours to do this). Thank you once again for all your support!

UPDATE #1: As of 1 July 2020 (as updated by IG Ausometots), MSF has responded and are in contact with Mdm Safirah regarding the case. Do give her some space in the mean time! Thank you for your support - we will e-mail MSF regarding this petition and all your signatures, to continue raising awareness for cases like this. In the meantime, we will be keeping this petition open so please do continue to share it and spread awareness on how we can support individuals with special needs. Just a reminder as well - this is not an official fundraiser for Ali and his family, so please don't donate under this petition!

(Disclaimer: DO NOT DONATE - Please note that donations under this petition will not go to Ali or his family. If you would like to chip in, please check with them if they have an official gofundme fundraiser!)

Background: Ali is a special needs kid (diagnosed with Autism and Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder (ADHD)) who has sought the assistance of an Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) Therapist.

In March last year, his mother (Mdm Safirah Oshin) found that his therapist had been abusing him during a session (with a 40-minute long video evidencing this). In the snippet of the video she posted on her Facebook page, Ali could be seen visibly distressed by the therapist's actions, and this could lead to long-lasting trauma for him and his family. The therapist should be held accountable for her actions, and should not be allowed to further work with children until the case has been properly investigated. No child deserves to be treated that way. As Singapore becomes increasingly inclusive, there is an urgent need for us to protect children with special needs and nurture them in a safe and loving environment.

Mdm Safirah reported this in 2019 but the case was closed and the therapist was only given a verbal warning. The case was reopened in January 2020 - Mdm Safirah has since then reached out to various relevant government agencies but there have been no follow-ups.

This petition aims to reach out to the public to seek Justice for Ali. With your support, we hope to call on the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to lead the effort in taking stronger action against the therapist.

In addition, to help out you could call MSF hotline at 18007770000 to demand an investigation
