Why this petition matters

Started by Gaming Matters

In the course of a free and open economic capitalist society, it becomes necessary to ensure consumer goods are available to all at the prices set by the companies who create the products.

It has come to the attention of the gaming community that the morally bankrupt practice of scalping has at quite possibly the worst time in history for such an act to happen, destroyed the launch of the most recent major company's products in entertainment.

Though this issue was brought up by the gaming community it has existed in many facets of our economic system for years and it is time for the practice to be officially outlawed by the bastion of capitalism; the United States of America.

The practice of scalping is currently defined as a misdemeanor by 15 US states individually, with nothing more than a slap on the wrist for destroying an entire sector of the economy and forcing consumers to use sketchy third parties to purchase potentially life-changing products and services.

If gone unchecked (like it has been) all products distributed online are vulnerable to attack and prices skyrocketing due to mass buyouts of all products through automation.

We are only now seeing the painful reality of viewing a product that was originally priced at 599.00 USD on resale websites for upwards of 100,000.00 USD with no other option available to purchase these items.

The gaming community specifically is dealing with this problem. The day of 3 Major technology companies next generation of gaming hardware was put on sale, it was en masse bought out before any real customers could buy them and put on resale on eBay for ridiculous prices.

Its time to make a stand against the practice and officially outlaw scalping in the United States. #GamersAgainstScalpers
