Why this petition matters

Started by Caitlin Marie Toal

Right now, young people like me are left with no voice on the UK’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and are left with increasing anxiety for what our future looks like.

We watch the news everyday and see headlines that youth unemployment is set to reach 1 million this year and that we may face the sharpest recession on record. It’s frightening, And we want to call on the Prime Minister to take action and make sure we aren’t being forgotten.

This is why I am calling for the Government to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to submit questions to their coronavirus press conference. Even though we are under 18, we believe that now is the time for us to speak up on what matters to us most - like our education and future financial stability. The pandemic has affected all our lives, and it’ll affect our futures too.

Being a representative of My Life My Say, which aims to give young people a voice, I am appalled that the current Government platform doesn’t allow 16 and 17-year-olds to participate.

We deserve to have a voice just live everyone else, so please sign my petition to make sure we don’t have a generation of #ForgottenYouth.
