Why this petition matters

Started by Eleanor Clerehugh

Two women a week and thirty men a year are murdered due to abuse. Four hundred people commit suicide a year who have attended the hospital because of injuries caused by domestic abuse in the past six months. Two hundred of these four hundred people commit suicide on the day they attended hospital. One in four women and one in six men are affected by domestic abuse in their lifetime. Domestic abuse is the most quoted reason for being homeless according to people in a shelter. Please find it in your heart to sign this petition so we can encourage the government to provide more funding to refuges for those fleeing abuse so they no longer have to live in fear or have to return to their abuser because the refuge cannot stay open due to low funding. Thank you.
