Why this petition matters

Started by Tosin O

The PR passport transmission through VFS Lagos and Abuja Offices in Nigeria is a gruesome process with delays. This process takes 7 to 8 weeks on the average from submission to return of International Passports to Applicants. In other VFS offices around the world, the process takes  average of 10 business days and even less. In fact passports are returned under a week in many cases.

Vague update is provided while Applicants wait in perpetuity for their primary travel document and primary form of identification. VFS Lagos and Abuja always claim that it is Accra Visa Office that is to blame, knowing fully well that Accra Visa Office cannot be reached on phone nor return emails. Passport are delayed at the VFS office for not less than 2 weeks after delivery to the VAC, without transmission to Accra Visa Office(AVO) for passport stamping, and upon approval of the visa, passports are not picked up from AVO for weeks (In many cases more than 4 weeks). This is height of irresponsibly by VFS Lagos and Abuja!

For many applicants, this is a stressful and frustrating situation.  Holding someone's travel document for more than 4 weeks is not acceptable. Activities such as business travel, international examinations, health energence travels and family relationships are adversely affected due to this delay.

No value for money, direct transmission to the AVO when it was an option took less than 2 weeks. VFS Lagos and Abuja need to be called to order and improve their transmission process and reduce wait times to less than 2 weeks on the average.
