Umstead State Park has ignored mountain biking for too long. The park has knowingly allowed unsanctioned adjacent RDU land to satisfy user demand for single track trails. The traffic of runners and cyclists using RDU's land is evident every clear day. Umstead has ignored requests for trails knowing that the mountain bike community is under-served in the area and resorts to creating unsanctioned trails. 

The defense of conservation and/or maintenance costs is inexcusable. The park is located directly under an airports airspace. It is plain to see parks with more animal activity like Beaverdam or Lake Norman has more biking trails without hindering the ecosystem.

The leadership responsible for the reprehensible failure of support for the public need and lack of ethics in allowing users to fill their recreation needs illegally at adjacent property is not one that should condoned or continued. The entire issue at RDU is because the Umstead State Park is completely failing to provide adequate resources to the biking community.
