Since the inception of our nation, we’ve been strategically divided. We’ve fallen. And we continue to fall...for a narrative spun by our ancestors that everyone’s always gotten a say. For the last 160 years, that narrative’s been spun by a bought and paid for “two-corporatist-party” system that rigs the game to make sure the non-wealthy never have a say and are complicit in their deprivation. We’ve been systematically given crumbs, manipulated by our own pride, fleeced into thinking we’ve had a choice, and told the steps, that were, in actuality, moving us like a rat on a wheel, were ones that were moving us forward. 

All people were not initially created equal in America and, to this day still, not everyone has the right to vote. But voting is a nonpartisan issue. Everyone deserves the right to have an equal say in who represents them no matter what. One vote for one person. 

The next step we must take must be a stride—must be a leap—so that we are no longer divided, so the hundred million people that don’t vote because they feel defeated actually have a say, so that we can break the cycle, so that we can break the duopoly. 

We do this by overhauling the electoral system entirely. We must take the nationwide momentum of Ranked Choice Voting and implement it throughout all states. Then states must sign on to the National Ranked Choice Voting Interstate Compact so plurality voting—true democracy—is concretized at the local, state, and federal levels throughout the land. 

Whether you’re a Republican, a Democrat, an Independent, a Libertarian, a Green, or what have you, we have all been betrayed. This affects all of us. We tear the electoral system, as it is now, out by the roots—tear down the wall of First-Past-The-Post, gut the Electoral College—and in its place cultivate a new system where people are no longer beholden to “the lesser of two evils”, where politicians can no longer hide behind their castle walls thus forcing accountability, and where policy you’ve wanted for decades is actually feasible.
