Why this petition matters

Started by David DeLorenzo

NOTE: This petition is not intended to remove the current voice actors of Sam and Max (which are David Nowlin and Andrew Chaikin/William Kasten/Dave Boat, respectively).  The purpose of this petition is to request an additional voice option in the form of the original voice actors of Sam and Max (Bill Farmer and Nick Jameson, respectively).

The first Sam and Max project in which the Freelance Police were given voice was "Sam and Max Hit the Road". Bill Farmer (the current voice of Disney's "Goofy"), voiced Sam, while Nick Jameson (a former Foghat bassist, as well as an actor who appeared on "Lost" and "24") voiced Max.

There was going to be a sequel to that game in 2004 that would have allowed both Bill Farmer and Nick Jameson to reprise their roles again, but Lucasarts cancelled the game when it was pretty far in production, and fired the people who worked on it.

Lucasarts' license with Sam and Max expired in 2005, and Telltale picked up the rights to that license. However...

For their episodic series, and for their Poker Night games, they have used neither Bill Farmer nor Nick Jameson for Sam and Max... or any characters in any of their other games from the company's opening in 2004 to the company's closure in 2018. Instead, they have used cheaper, local actors.

It has been fourteen years since the voice switch, and it is clear that while there are some Sam and Max fans who are satisfied... there are others who miss the old-school charm that Bill Farmer and Nick Jameson applied to their roles.

This petition has been created to give fans of the original voice actors a voice of their own.  While Happy Giant Studios has finally given Sam and Max fans another chance to play a game featuring the Freelance Police after their last one in 2013 (Poker Night 2), and Skunkape Games has remastered Sam and Max Save the World with updated graphics and improved features, a Sam and Max game without Farmer and Jameson will do nothing but make this victory a hollow one.  Those two are the ones responsible for bringing those two characters to life, for without them, they might never have been voiced at all in any game.

While Nowlin, Chaikin, Kasten and Boat have been brought back to satisfy fans of the Telltale voices, I thought - why not a compromise?  What if Happy Giant Studios, Bay Area Sound and Skunkape Games would create a "dual audio" option so that Sam and Max fans can choose which voices they wanted in these games - the Telltale voices or the original Hit the Road voices?  I think it would be the best way to go, so that not only the current actors can continue voicing their characters, but also so that the original actors can finally, after sixteen years, reclaim their long-overdue second chance.

In doing so, it is my hope that Happy Giant Studios, Bay Area Sound and Skunkape Games will better understand Sam and Max fans and provide itself with more positive feedback and happier and more content fans, as well as give the original actors another chance to be allowed to finish what they had started.
