Police officers have been caught having sex with (raping) detainees, and the law for 35/50 states says that if the OFFICER, (not the detainee), claims the sex was consensual, then no human rights laws were broken. (no crime was committed.) 

In September of 2017, 18-year-old Anna Chambers and her two male friends were caught smoking weed by two NYPD detectives, however, while the other two boys were let go, Chambers was detained where she was further instructed to undress, was handcuffed, led to the back of the officers' car, and raped. 

The DNA samples collected proved their crimes and the two officers have since left the NYPD and were charged with rape, however, they served NO JAIL TIME. This wasn't an easy case for Anna. Her only chances of holding those officers accountable was their DNA found on her, compared to many other cases of tampering, hiding, and victim-blaming for other rape victims. 

There is NO federal provision against police officers having sex with persons in their custody, nor do these 35 states have official laws against it.

These states include Nevada, Indiana, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Illinois, Alabama, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Delaware, Missouri, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maryland.

This IS RAPE, and by law, it is illegal. Just because an individual is detained does not forfeit their basic human rights. The police who have raped detainees in the past need to be charged for their crimes, but first, we need to bring these crimes to light. 

The ultimate goal is to outlaw detained rape by police officers across all states and to charge offending police officers from previous cases for their sex crimes! We want more than just parole!
