Why this petition matters

Started by Queensland Youth Services

Queensland Youth Services pilot program, Recycle Your Dreams, will cease operation in May, 2019, due to a lack of funding and we need your support.

Recycle Your Dreams is a unique program which helps local disengaged and disadvantaged youth move into the workforce.

Participants engage in a simulated work place which is designed to help them overcome barriers to employment and develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours required for success in the workplace.

During the program, local young people participate in on-the-job and accredited training in our social enterprise, learn about different industries and career paths through industry visits and gain invaluable work experience with local employers.

To date, Recycle Your Dreams has had 105 disadvantaged and disengaged youth engage in the program with over 44 going into employment or on to further study and 31 still being supported through the program.

This program works with local young people who don't fit into conventional schooling, have had involvement with youth justice or substance misuse, are working through mental health issues and family breakdown or are trying to break the cycle of generational welfare dependency.

Recycle Your Dreams started in 2017 as an Empowering Youth Initiative through the Federal Department of Jobs and Small Business. The current funding agreement ends in May 2019. Queensland Youth Services have applied for funding through an alternative department however have not yet received approval.

Without an alternative funding arrangement, the Recycle Your Dreams program will cease to operate in May, 2019. With increased rates of crime, substance misuse and mental health issues amongst youth in our community, the loss of this program would be a detriment to a community in need.

Please show your support for the continued funding of this program by signing our petition.
