Stop SpeechBlubs from using offensive advertising aimed towards non-verbal children
Why this petition matters
SpeechBlubs have been using extremely discriminatory and offensive advertising campaigns. There have been several of these advertisements constantly showing up throughout social media platforms.
Examples of these include:
- A drooling, vacant looking baby staring at a screen labelled ‘non-verbal’ & a smiling, happy, colourful child labelled ‘verbal’
- A child crying all alone on a swing labelled ‘non-verbal’ & a child in a group of other children, playing, happy & accepted labelled ‘verbal’
This kind of advertising is appalling. It is offensive to the autism community & parents of children with autism. They are aiming to show non verbal children in a negative way (crying, drooling, isolated), while verbal children are being shown as happy, accepted and included.
I myself am a mum to a beautiful 3 year old girl with autism. She is non verbal, but she is an amazing, happy, funny child who lights up every room. She is not a drooling, unhappy, crying child.
The same goes to all the other amazing autistic children:
This business has been called out by the autism community previously for their use of offensive advertisements, and blatant discrimination towards non-verbal autistic children & adults. This cannot continue. We cannot let our children be discriminated against like this.
SpeechBlubs simply cannot get away with this.
This is not good enough. Please sign.
