Why this petition matters

Started by Daniel Giavedoni

SUMMARY:

Reports from multiple news sources all indicate that the Boeing Company has disregarded basic safety requirements at their facilities, has influenced the FAA, and continues to lobby the US Government to allow Boeing to continue to engage in this reckless behavior. For more information on how to Boycott, see the bottom of this petition, for evidence of the above facts, please scroll down to THE EVIDENCE section.

THE EVENTS:

Lion Air Flight 610 crash
Date: October 29, 2018
Number of deaths: 189
Survivors: 0
Likely cause: Gross negligence and sloppy engineering. Promoted within Boeing and the FAA to speed up the launch date of the Boeing 737 MAX in order to compete with Airbus.

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crash
Date: March 10, 2019
Number of deaths: 157
Survivors: 0
Likely cause: Gross negligence (potentially second-degree manslaughter "when a person continues with a reckless act that they are aware of committing, and they consciously disregard the potentially fatal risks involved to others"). Intentionally ignoring what had become a clear and present danger of the inferior MCAS system (such as the risk of catastrophic failure and a lack of regulatorily required redundancies).

Even after both these crashes and all the information gathered, on Tuesday March 12, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg called the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to recommend AGAINST grounding the 737 MAX. To this day, the CEO continues to use deceptive language in an attempt to convince the public that this was an unexpected accident. Dennis Muilenburg is either completely ignorant to the functioning of this own company and its planes, or is intentionally misleading the general public. In either case, be it incompetence or malice, Dennis Muilenburg must be removed as CEO.

THE DEMANDS:

In response to the repeated disregard of human life by Boeing, the signers of this petition commit to boycotting Boeing (when alternative planes are available) until:

  1. Support law enforcement in filing criminal charges where appropriate (against any engineers, managers, and directors intentionally misleading the FAA)
  2. Reform company culture and demand that inspectors be employed by the FAA, not Boeing (no self-regulation)
  3. Stop production of the 737 MAX Airplanes.*

*While the planes can be designed to be safe, it is necessary to send the message to all companies that reckless behavior resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people is wholly unacceptable. Stopping production of this plane, and the resulting losses to Boeing, is a reasonable expectation in light of these concerns.

HOW TO BOYCOTT:

The easiest way to Boycott Boeing:
Use www.KAYAK.com and remove Boeing planes from your flight selection (see 'More updates' under the 'Updates' section below for more info on how to de-select planes).

How to Boycott Boeing if you are using a different booking website:
Use www.SeatGuru.com and enter in the flight information to check the plane before buying.

How to Boycott Boeing from a smartphone:
Download the SeatGuru app and enter the flight information to check the plane.

If boycotting will cause a major inconvenience or additional cost, do not feel the need to boycott for that flight. A good boycott must be sustainable over the long term. Do it when you can, don't worry about it when you can't, even if you do it once every 4 flights, it will still have a meaningful impact if enough people do it. If you are unable to boycott Boeing, you can still sign and support the boycott by sharing this petition.
