The Westconnex Rozelle Interchange project is planning to remove the bridge over Victoria Road that provides safe access for people walking and cycling. This bridge connects to the Lilyfield Road cycleway, one of the busiest cycleways in NSW.

From May 2020, the alternative offered includes a long deviation and multi-staged crossing.  This won’t cope with the volume of bike traffic, and people needing to cross.

It will be much more dangerous – especially for children and families trying to cross busy roads.

I’m calling for Westconnex to provide a safe crossing that protects people from traffic. 

A temporary bridge over the road, or the use of tunnels under the road, and a connection to the Glebe Island Bridge would enable people to complete their journeys safely and prevent injuries.

The Westconnex website states that by ‘building the interchange mostly underground, the project will deliver new active transport options in Rozelle and up to 10 hectares of new open space.’ This new part of the design contradicts this statement and instead reduces the active transport options and decreases the quality of the public space in this area.
