Mariska Hargitay on Blackbird: An Advocacy Podcast
Why this petition matters
Sarah and Dan are hosts of Blackbird: An Advocacy Podcast, a true crime podcast advocating for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
As a volunteer survivor advocate in emergency departments, Sarah is well-versed in the necessity of having advocacy in all stages of a survivor's journey - from the moment an assault takes place, to the moment the perpetrator is prosecuted, and beyond.
A life-long Law and Order: SVU fan, Sarah has dedicated her life to advocacy work in both the legal and medical fields. She attended law school and has a degree in forensic psychology and is currently a forensic medicine master's student with hopes of becoming a forensic psychiatrist and sexual assault forensic examiner.
As part of her master's program, Sarah wrote a literature review regarding the sexual assault kit backlog in the United States. Citing information from The Joyful Heart Foundation, Sarah wrote the paper with incredible passion and will for justice.
The Joyful Heart Foundation was founded by Mariska Hargitay in 2004 with the mission to "transform society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, support survivors’ healing, and end this violence forever"(joyfulheartfoundation.org).
It would be Sarah and Dan's absolute honor to host Mariska Hargitay on an episode of their podcast - to discuss her advocacy work and her role as Captain Olivia Benson.
As an added bonus, if Ms. Hargitay agrees to guest on the podcast, Sarah and Dan will donate $1 to The Joyful Heart Foundation for every download that episode receives within its first month of release.
We thank you all so much.
Mariska, we appreciate you beyond words.
