As of July 2nd, 2020, six states (VA, CA, NY, NJ, CO, WA) have passed the Crown Act, which bans discrimination against hairstyles and textures associated with race (ex. locs, braids, and twists). While the Crown Act is a significant step in the right direction, only six states out of fifty have passed this critical piece of legislation. Black communities have suffered discrimination towards our hair for generations, and we are demanding actual change to come. Jobs and schools should not be allowed to force a black person to cut, remove, or alter their hair to fit in with European standards of beauty. Unfortunately, this has been our reality for far too long. Please sign this petition so that we may get the attention of the remaining forty-four states.
