For more than 50 years Preston Market has been the heart of the Preston community. But now the market’s unique values are under threat from a proposed development of the site.

Council is worried that the development could see the market demolished and rebuilt in another location. This could mean that we lose its heritage value and all the things that make it so special – such as its diverse range of traders selling fresh, affordable food.

Preston Market’s owners, Preston Market Development Pty. Ltd. haven’t committed to protect all the things about the market that the community cares about.

That’s why Darebin Council is calling for the market to be protected in its current site and form.

We want to ensure that the Preston Market continues to serve the community at the same location, in the same way for another 50 years and beyond.
