“Gurukula education system along with the blend of modern education will revolutionize the education system.”

"Accepting western culture is not a problem but disowning our own really is"

"We Indians feel inferior on being Indian. We disown ourselves in our own motherland and the reason behind it is that we are becoming more and more western in taste."

One of the most important evidence of our ignorance towards own culture is that there are nearly 30 lakh Sanskrit works, which are still waiting to get translated. But who would translate them! Indians are busy in celebrating English, French, Spanish etc. ISN'T IT SHAMEFUL FOR US?

Our upcoming generation doesn’t know anything about our culture and traditions. It’s ironical that seven decades have passed since British left, but the decline in our culture has not stopped yet. Gurukulas are almost extinct now; on the other side Christian schools are showing their presence in every corner of the country.

What is a Gurukula?

A Gurukula or Gurukulam was a type of education system in ancient India with shishya(students) living near or with the guru, in the same house. The guru-shishya tradition is a sacred one in Hinduism and appears in other religious groups in India, such as Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism. Before the British rule, they served as South Asia's primary educational system. In a Gurukula, the students living together are considered as equals, irrespective of their social standing.

Modern Gurukulas

These schools are based on Vedic-cum-modern education. They provide Vedic and traditional knowledge in Sanskrit as well as Modern scientific knowledge. Acharyakulam is the one established near Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar.

The main objectives of the gurukul system are Self-control, Character development, Social awareness, Personality development, Intellectual development, Spiritual development, Preservation of knowledge & culture.

Testimonial of the success of the Gurukula system

·        It's huge achievements cannot be expressed even in hundred books. So I'll be very short assuming that interested readers will search and learn about these facts on their own.

In mathematics, the idea of zero, the decimal system, numerical notations, Fibonacci number, Binary numbers, Chakarvala method of Algorithm, the value of pie, Ruler measurement etc were known. Longitude, Latitude, Tides, Eclipse, and many other geographic phenomena were also well known.

Ajanta and Ellora caves, Wooltz steel, smelting of zinc, Mehrauli rust free iron pillar, "Sushruta Samhita" mentioning plastic and Cataract surgery, "Mayantam" talking about construction technologies and most importantly the Vaimānika Śāstra, a Sanskrit text on aerospace technology (flying vehicles) are enough for a capable mind to understand the greatness of our culture.

Another notable scientist was Kanad who is said to have devised the atomic theory, speculated the existence of “anu” much like an atom. The theory of relativity is also claimed to be understood by Indian Einstein Nagarjuna. The words gravitational force in Sanskrit is called “GURUTVA (mass) AKARSHANA(attraction) SHAKTI”.

With this huge reserve of knowledge at home, we are busy in speaking English in fancy accents considering ourselves British or American, not knowing that they won’t ever consider us among themselves. We will always be identified as Indians, this culture gives us the identity. So it’s our duty to protect our identity and Gurukula is a very good in this regard.

Hence, with this petition, I would like to request govt. and all the organizations which claim to promote Indian culture to come forward and revive Gurukulas. Govt. schools should be redesigned as per Gurukulas or new gurukulas should be opened to teach our ancient scientific knowledge. If not mandatory, at least a positive environment should be created for Sanskrit and it should be made available as one of the medium in every school till the tenth standard. It should be promoted in higher education as well.

A museum should be built showcasing the technical expertise and great philosophies of our ancient past, so that our common people could understand the greatness of our past.

Please give your views on Why Sanskrit and Gurukula system needs to be revived?
