Here is one of the students from my department kicked out from the research lab and faced humiliations, torture and regional discrimination by his supervisor in School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad. I request all of you to support him and request the government of India to give him a PhD degree.

Dear Sudalai Kumar and all,

I am very glad to hear that some one came forward to fight with the unethical, unjustifiable and unforgivable acts of this person. I am one of the victims. You know that very well. I will support you in all aspects until the very end if it is needed.

 

I read your emails very carefully from word to word and letter to letter. You know very well what happened to me in lab. I don't think that you or any other lab members have forgotten that. I just want to share my feelings with everyone. I think this is the right time.

 

I, Kalyana chakravarthy A, worked as a Research Scholar (2 YEARS 8 MONTHS) under the supervision of this person (Aswini Nangia). The reasons Why I left the lab are, I couldn't bear his humiliations, torture and regional discrimination. The very beginning of the conflict is when he asked me to do his private company (TBI) work. I refused to do that work. From that moment onwards he never really behaved in a positive manner with me. I am a CSIR fellow, not his company employee. He used DST/CSIR funded equipments for his personal benefit which is illegal. He pressurized and threatened indirectly everyone in lab to do his personal work.

 

Here I am attaching the last DC report of my Ph.D career. After seeing the lies presented in DC report, I went to his chamber to ask about this. I was very much shocked by his rude behavior. Those words I will never forget and that time frame will never disappear from my mind. I have never been humiliated like that before in my life.

 

Now coming to the DC report

He wrote my attendance was very bad and has written down a fictitious number (90/180). Everybody in lab knows that I am attending the lab regularly. Even this person knows that. Lab didn't have any attendance register. Then how could he come up with (90/180).?
I explained everything in front of these HONORABLE, RESPECTABLE, WORTHY committee members. I told them, i was dealing with 4 to 5 projects simultaneously and i completed two projects and remaining were half done. I have enough work to write JRF report and this person accused me of not having enough results for JRF report and publications. This person intentionally stopped me to write JRF report by saying that I don't have enough results for a long time and he presented this at committee as my mistake.
After I left lab, this person published two standard publications on my work. If my attendance and work progress was worst then how could I get two standard publications? And one more thing, he intentionally didn't put my name as co-author in one more publication which I contributed.
 

Now coming to the DC committee members, I don't even understand how they approved these false allegations on me even though I explained everything about my work and my progress.

 

I took research as career because I was delighted in it. Every time I found something new my soul rejoiced and I felt like demigod. Now I am feeling nothing because I choose the wrong man as my research guide. This person stole my life. This person stole my career. This person stole my valuable years from me. This person stole everything from me until I left with nothing.

 

My sincere request to all the faculty members of University of Hyderabad. Please wake up. Try to see the other side of the coin (student side). Some of you are good and very cordial to the student community and their rights. But from the moment you close your eyes for the wrong doings of one of your colleague, you are part of his sins. Once research was an elite career option. Now even middle class and poor middle class students dreaming to pursue a career in research. May be these elite groups couldn't digest that. Special request to these elite groups, Please don't crush our dreams.

 

My honest advice to students, please do not surrender yourself to the authority. .Time has come to change. Time has come to enter into new era. Time has come to fight back. If you didn't notice it now, everything will be the same and you will be the next one.

 

I am writing this not by the hatred in my guts, but by the pain in my heart. If these things continue like this, Research Scholar will soon become next endangered species in India.
