The South African post office could have exclusive rights to delivering your small parcels

In the year 2018, the South African Post Office Lodged a complaint under the postal services act with the Independent Communication authority of South Africa (ICASA) wherein the company would maintain exclusive rights to deliver items 1kg or less.

Icasa ruled in favour of SAPO ordering courier services such as postnet to stop delivering small parcels by March of 2020 and the only thing standing between them and your parcel is a court interdict by postnet and a review of the SAPO's interpretation of the postal services act lodged by the South African express parcel association.

Sapo and Icasa has challenged this review and should they High court rule in their favour, SAPO could monopolise the logistics industry and you would lose the right to choose who delivers your small packages.

This this could mean your favourite lunchtime snack, medication, online purchases, important documents and gift deliveries will be delivered solely and exclusively by SAPO leaving you without a right to choose which entity to entrust with your precious parcels

  • We would like the high court to review the SAPO's interpretation of  the postal services act or the act as a whole as it infringes of the consumers right to choose which courier services to use.
  • We would like SAPO to reclaim the small package delivery market share the old fashioned way; service delivery, adequate customer support, competitive pricing that beats out the competition and of course safe and secure post offices.
