Vaccination Priority in Phase 2 for Hairstylists and others in the Personal Care Industry
Vaccination Priority in Phase 2 for Hairstylists and others in the Personal Care Industry
Why this petition matters
Hairstylists and others within the personal care service industry have yet to be taken into consideration for the COVID-19 vaccine roll out, and we want to change that! What we are asking is that Governor Newsom and the California Department of Public Health add hairstylists, as well as all other sectors within the personal care service industry to the phase 2 rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Our industry remains one of the hardest hit during this pandemic, being forced to shut our doors three separate times in the last 12 months. The three shutdowns were said to be done as preventative action to curb the spread of COVID-19. As beauty professionals, we rely on our continued patronage for our income. For most of the personal care industry, we do not have access to paid time off; and in some cases health insurance. Our entire livelihood is hinging on our ability to stay safe and healthy.
In the most recent State mandated closure, which was effective December 7, 2020, we were shut down alongside the restaurant industry. The restaurant industry has been afforded consideration above the personal care service industry, and was included in the phase 1 of the vaccination rollout. You would think that since our industries were simultaneously closed, we would be included alongside the restaurant industry in consideration for the phase 1 vaccine rollout.
By making us a priority, Governor Newsom will be reaffirming our importance, our contribution to the revenue of our state, and most importantly that we have not been forgotten or left behind in the mission for our health and safety.
Please help us convey to him that we are truly essential, that we deserve a higher priority, and that we need to be include in the phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
