Why this petition matters

Started by Jacklyn Cheely

On October 22, 2019, the University of Limerick unveiled the new university colors and logo. The overwhelming reaction was that of frustration, disappointment, and sadness. Resigning the old UL crest, the new logo incorporates the Irish elk, the Shannon River, King John's Castle, the UL Flagpoles, and the Tau cross. It is optically overwhelming. Although the university was striving for a fresh, young, and innovative look, they achieved a childish, sloppy, and classless look instead. Transitioning away from the classic maroon, gold, and navy, UL has instead opted to go with a forest green and lime green combination. This combination of colors has also been met with disappointment among the student body, After spending €100,000 on the re-branding, rather than on more prominent issues raised by the student population, many are left feeling unheard by UL administrators.

It's time to lift our voices. The campus community was proud to display the old branding on t-shirts, bags, or other merchandise. It was classic, sophisticated, and reverent, and perfectly reflected our campus community. Bring it back.
