Why this petition matters

Marrickville currently has 27,000 residents and is one of Australia’s most populated suburbs in Sydney. Along historic and fragile narrow streets that date back over 100 years a 695m2 single site 8 metres from Marrickville train station has received DA/2020/0578 proposing a non-compliant unsafe 10 storey boarding house for 244 people and 42 cars. With surrounding long standing single storey houses and compliant 4 storey blocks of units directly facing and neighbouring this DA on parallel streets, as well as being on one of Marrickville's busiest cross roads with traffic congestion, accidents, crime incidents, over parking and high level pedestrian crossroads on Illawarra Road, Schwebel and Station Street, this DA is clearly objectionable.
We need your support to help stop this unsafe over development and low standard building proposal that is not community driven, compliant, fair and amenity sharing. Instead it hopes to double the Council LEP building heights and what should be a building x 10 quality 2 bedroom apartments they aim to place 244 people in single kitchenette studios.
