On the evening of March 12, 2020, the SCAHA board of directors made the decision to cancel the remainder of the 2019-2020 postseason citing “preventative measures to manage the spread of COVID-19”. While public health should be at the forefront of any decision regarding our youth hockey players, many feel as though there are alternative solutions (including, but not limited to postponement) which could enable the remaining teams to complete the 2019-2020 SCAHA season. 

The players across all of Southern California deserve to finish out the remainder of the 2019-2020 SCAHA season. These players’ hard work and dedication to the sport of hockey is seemingly negated because twenty-one (21) club presidents/SCAHA board members made a decision without truly weighing all the available options to ensure the 2019-2020 hockey season can be completed while keeping players, coaches, staff and spectators potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus at a minimum. 

We are asking SCAHA revisit this situation and find an alternative solution and/or postpone the cancellation of the 2019-2020 postseason until more information becomes available.
