In April 2016 the British people voted on the name of their new polar research ship. Over 120,000 citizens proudly stood by the name RSS Boaty McBoatface, with 400% more votes than the second place entry.

But this month, it has become official, the Nerc has turned its back on the British people. Instead of going for the glorious, democratically chosen name of Boaty McBoatace, they are going with the 5th place vote, with just over 10,000 votes, and naming the ship after David Attenborough.

We share a great appreciation for Sir Attenborough and ask him to stand with the UK and, even, the World in solidarity - and change his name to Boaty McBoatface. Thus righting the terrible wrong that has been done to the people, while simultaneously furthering his own legacy.

In this way, while Boaty McBoatface has missed it's chance to be christened by the Duchess of Cambridge, it will at least have been knighted.
