Why this petition matters

Started by Gary Richards

Please help stop the over development of our award winning Chignal Estate, the design of our area included many green spaces, trees, garages for rent and was on the outskirts of the County town of Essex (recently made a city). We have had thousands of houses built near us already over the years yet the powers to be have downsized our infant/primary school closed a large secondary school near us allowed the garages to fall into disrepair (to allow more housing) built flats on our estate’s park and now want to put a road through our green space area where children play. On top of this ramblers constantly use The Centenary Circle route, which passes by our green space area and utilise the tables and seating supplied by the residents association CERA to rest, picnic and take in the view.

Why you might ask are they doing this to the residents living here? It is all to build yet another Estate the other side of our green space, supposedly to allow buses to pass through our Estate (onto the road our infant/junior school resides) for the benefit of everyone! As this new development is alongside/joins a main road into Chelmsford (Roxwell Road) why would they need to do this? Before selling our park the Council banned all ball games in it and the grass areas on the Estate, good job they wasn’t so narrow minded when Sir Geoff Hurst grew up on the Chignal Estate.

This petition is proposing that Chelmsford City Council turn our green space area plus additional ground into an official “Geoff Hurst Park” as a buffer zone between the two estates keeping our wildlife safe and giving nature a chance to clean the air we breath. It will also help preserve our stream and give a beautiful outlook for our future generations. This will include scraping the proposed unwanted road and with the money saved supply some equipment for our youngsters to enjoy in a safe natural outside environment.

If necessary scrap this local plan and build the extra housing along A12 (main link to London and Colchester) where they are already building thousands of homes but supplying extra infrastructure including new school, railway station, shoping center and new roads, not as in our case depleating existing resourses.
