Govt to stop use of term Massage Parlours when referring to professional massage therapist
Why this petition matters
Professional Massage Therapists have been fighting for years to lose the terminology that associates our profession with the sex industry. We have professional bodies who work alongside parliamentary committee. We are professionally insured to treat. We have undertaken training some to degree level to offer high quality bodywork in our clinics. The use of the term 'massage parlour' is outdated and demeaning to our profession. At this time when we are keen to return to work to help people the government insists on using this term which suggests that they do not fully understand what we do or the service we provide which is essential for many living with pain. This also may be impacting upon the decision as to when we may return to work putting many of our community at risk of losing their livelihood. We ask to be referred to as massage therapists or clinical bodyworkers. We ask that the government review our role and when we may return to work for the benefit of both our clients who need us more than ever and for our profession and businesses.
