A general acceptance is the discrimination and subtle aggressions within government and social systems. Why is this our norm? Over years of history, many Black Americans don’t know theirs. Because of past events such as slavery in the United States many don’t understand Black history as a whole.
When I bring this up as an issue, I do not mean the miseducation of slavery. It is more than just this it is in fact the deliberate use of falsifying history to continue our history of oppression.

As African Americans we have never been written in history as human. We have been dehumanized with usage of caricatures, stereotyping, and overall systematic oppression; conveying the message that we as a people are violent. Over 400 years of the same texts have been used in our schools, which deprive children of proper education on Black inventors, artist, and activist. The only mention in most curriculums are Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. Many children only learn of these because of policy of old being implemented in their communities.

As we all know race is a heavy topic in our society today. It is defined as the root cause of police brutality, mass incarceration, and the overall oppression of many communities of color. This is also representative in the way that children are taught. In predominantly white schools textbooks, extracurricular, and foreign language activities are provided just by a school being present in the neighborhood. In communities of color there are teacher shortages, as well as information and curriculum misconceptions being taught to children.
Infamously known as rewriting history, many American schools reflect the idea of white supremacy, because of the changing of rape, murder, and colonialism to intermingling, marriage, and disease. In texts the only mention is vague and does not depict Natives, Colonials, or Africans as who they really were. This distortion backed by many, including conservative government officials, is why race is still a factor in a many sections of life.
Until these are dismantled, race will always be a huge portion of how we live our lives; white, black, native, Asian, hispanic, or otherwise.

We seek to Improve this by bringing this issue to our Department of Education in the United States, on behalf of all communities of color; we say teach children about their heritage and others.
