We demand the immediate termination of Shelby Township Chief of Police Robert J. Shelide because of his violently racist comments regarding American citizens exercising their first amendment right to assemble.

Per reporting by the Metro Times, a twitter account credibly linked to Robert J Shelide called Black Lives Matter protestors and demonstrators "wild savages," invoking a word historically used to minoritize and otherize non-white Americans. He even called for the murder of protestors, many of whom are young, Black, and non-violent: "Body bags for these vicious subhumans."

He continued by inciting violence, even publicly craving the opportunity to use force and violence against demonstrators: "I wish to God I would have been there. Trump threatening to deploy the military. I have a better idea: unleash real cops and let them take care of these barbarians, I promise it will be over in 24 hours. Cops are crippled by politicians and the media."

Robert J. Shelide is a vile racist, and has demonstrated that he is not fit to be in a position of leadership and public trust. In order to dismantle white supremacy and institutional racism, we must hold Shelide accountable by firing him.
