Commonly known as Clare's Law, The Interpersonal Violence Disclosure Act allows those who feel they are at risk of domestic violence to get the facts they need to make life saving decisions. 

Although it began in the UK, The Interpersonal Violence Disclosure Act is a provincial act that is only in Saskatchewan as of July 29, 2020. According to Saskatchewan police services The Interpersonal Violence Disclosure Act ”authorizes a municipal police service to disclose certain risk related information to a current or former intimate partner where such information will assist the current or former partner in making informed decisions about their safety and relationship.” This includes: the right to ask, member of the public applying to the police service for information and the right to know: a police service deciding to provide information to what they believe is a potential victim. Applicants will not receive records, but are told if they are high, medium, or low risk. Unless the person is in immediate risk they will find out in 30 days. 

After writing to Premier Doug Ford, our message for information on the progress of instating this law in Ontario was pushed to Hon. Todd Smith (Bay of Quinte), the minister of Children, Community and Social Services. 

We call on Hon.Todd Smith to begin the process of instating this life saving act or at the very least explain why very little progress has been made so far in Ontario.
