We the undersigned believe that the Bega Valley Shire Council proposal for a deep ocean outfall (DOO) is a mistake. It is too expensive and will needlessly threaten the marine environment of the pristine Sapphire coast.

The $30-40million plan should be abandoned for the cleaner option of a Class A+ upgrade to current treatment that would mean there is no need for a DOO.

We are asking you as a decision maker to seriously consider the joint proposal by local community group SWAMP and Clean Ocean Foundation (COF) to support the proposal for Merimbula to a pilot site for NOUS. The intelligent and smart water system outline in COF’s National Outfall Upgrade Strategy. This would then free up state for funds for those on the South Coast affected in dire need now.
