Why this petition matters

Started by Pam Staffell

On November 1st, 2017 Khan announced the closure of the station. Richmond Council said the closure “must have a local benefit”. "Police accessibility here in the borough should be improved on the ground". Cressida Dick said "police most effective on the streets!" ONLY 4 police officers in my North Richmond ward! And 3 in South Richmond. In the borough of Richmond since the station closure until April 21 - 7 Gun crimes/personal robberies, 7 Homicides, 144 Knife crimes with injuries, and 1464 Drug offences.  There is huge demand amongst the local community for our local police station to be reinstated. Please can Sadiq Khan and/or the Home Office/London Assembly find funds? According to Richmond's Council Tax Guide, a Band D house pays £363.66 to the Greater London Authority, £252.13 of which goes to the Met Police. According to GLA The Mayor continues to do everything in his power to increase police funding. The rise in violent crimes in Richmond and the lack of a regular police presence and patrols in the borough must all be attributed to the closure of the police station.  Our neighbourhood needs to be safe and secure.
