Why this petition matters

Started by tobi omoyefa

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world"- Nelson Mandela

As a young black Canadian in the Saskatchewan school system I felt I was not taught enough about black history and the contributions black people made to the Canadian society. This exact same sentiment has been echoed by many other black people who felt they weren't given the opportunity to learn about their black history. It is time for black history to be included in the Saskatchewan school system.

So I started this petition because the problem of racial injustice and discrimination based on skin colour needs to be addressed and this can only be achieved through education. I want black history to be introduced to the School curriculum so that young people in society can have consciousness, knowledge and understanding of black history to appreciate their contributions to the human race. This will also promote harmonious relationships among all races in the multicultural society that we live in.

We are trying to reach the attention of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association in hopes that they make a change to the curriculum.
