Why this petition matters

Nursing staff are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. They are the constant presence in our health and social care services and the first person that patients often see. They care for us in hospital, in the community and in our own homes. But shortages in Northern Ireland have reached alarming levels.

This means that essential care can be left undone, there are increased waiting lists and vital treatments are delayed. Nurses do their best every day but this pressure is unsustainable. We all rely upon health services at some stage in our lives and nurses believe that the people of Northern Ireland deserve better.

Nurses in Northern Ireland are the lowest paid in the UK. It is vital that we are paid the same as our colleagues in Scotland, England and Wales, otherwise we risk losing the nurses we already have. We need investment now to recruit and retain nurses.

Support our nurses: Sign our petition today and demand that the Department of Health takes action to resolve our nurse staffing crisis and pay Northern Ireland nurses what they deserve.
