The Ethiopian green, yellow and red flag is a source of national pride, dignity and unity for the Ethiopian people and people of African descent. The green represents hope, fertility of land and prosperity, yellow symbolizes religious spirituality, freedom and peace, and red represents love, bravery, sacrifice and the blood of our forefathers who fought in defense and love of country. The plain, tri-color flag is a source of pride and national identity. The emblem placed in the middle of the flag represents a political party. It should not be used in an official capacity that alters Ethiopia's historical flag. National flags should not be subject to change with every change in government. Ethiopianism served as the basis for Pan-Africanism. Upon gaining their independence, 17 African nations officially adopted Ethiopia's tricolors into their national flag in solidarity of black liberation and African unity. The purpose of this petition is to ensure the traditional plain, green, yellow and red national flag of Ethiopia is restored. The Major Lemma Woldetsadik Memorial Foundation, on behalf of the Ethiopian Patriots and the Ethiopian people, urge the Ethiopian Government to restore Ethiopia's traditional flag! We encourage all Ethiopians and peoples of African descent that support its restoration to sign this petition NOW!
