Why this petition matters

Started by Robert Johnson

We the undersigned are officially calling on all US 100 meter runners to turn down a spot to the Tokyo Olympics if they are offered it now that Sha’Carri Richardson’s win from the 2020 US Olympic Track and Field Trials has been invalidated because she tested positive for marijuana. She was traumatized as her biological mother had just died and Richardson is clearly the US’s best 100m runner and captured the attention of the nation - even Michelle Obama is a fan - and Sha’Carri should represent the US in Tokyo.

Marijuana isn’t a performance enhancer and she should not lose her spot on the team for doming something that is legal in Oregon. Because her Olympic Trials results have been invalidated, USATF will go to the next person in the results and see if they want to go even though Sha’Carri’s one month suspension will be over before the Olympics and thus she will be eligible to compete in Tokyo. The only way she could get to run the individual 100 is if all the other US runners that are next in line turn down their spot which is why I’ve started this petition.

If everyone else turns it down, then presumably USATF would go back to Sha’Carri and ask her as she has the Olympic standard but would be considered in last place due to her marijuana positive.

Alternatively, those in charge will realize this is insanity, she had suffered a great loss, and will just put her back on the team.
